LONE VISITOR
Costa Rica
I worked on a construction project in El Peje for a week in March 2008. In our spare time, we delivered rice and beans to families around the village. Many did not know where their next meal would come from. We knocked on doors, wives and mothers usually answered, and they sometimes immediately started to cry as they stood in their “homes” with dirt floors. It made me appreciate the fact that I have never gone hungry.
I felt slightly guilty as on the last day of our trip, we ziplined, swam, and ate a good meal at a resort at the base of the Arenal Volcano.
