South Carolina

I will use the same line as my North Carolina writing: “I spent much time in the Carolinas from the years 2008-2010 because I dated a sweet Southern girl from Cheraw, South Carolina.”

Cheraw is located on the Great Pee Dee River near the border of North Carolina. Together, we did much exploring of the state including places like Myrtle Beach and Charleston.

I remember visiting her friend’s oceanfront house in Myrtle Beach. I was laying on the couch wearing a red and black plaid shirt, and sported a red beard. When one of her friends arrived home and walked in the door, he jumped back and exclaimed, “WHOA, are you from Appalachia?”

That same man took me for a late-night boat ride through some of the bayous of the area and eventually out into the Atlantic Ocean. I will never forget it. The night was dark but the moon and the stars glittered on the ocean waters, and so did the lights of the city.

My favorite memory of South Carolina is sitting at a table playing cards outside of an ice cream shop in Cheraw, watching the sky turn orange, yellow, and red, and continuing our game as the lights flickered on around us.

If I were to have any regrets in my life…it would be letting her go…
