Fall, Autumn, fall colored leaves

Wisconsin

For six years I lived in a small town of 1,000 people in southwestern Minnesota. Everybody knew me.

In 2014, my wife decided I was not good enough.

She left with another man; never to be seen again.

I was lost and did not know what to do. I knew I could not stay in a town if I was to sort out my personal problems.

I took two weeks off of work and visited my sister in River Falls.

It was there that I took my wedding ring off for the first time, and felt an almost supernatural, instant sense of relief.

No longer bonded to someone who does not love me. Free to do what I want.

It was Autumn during this time and I hiked around the hills, rivers, and forests surrounding River Falls.

I sat alone at a booth at the restaurant where my sister waitressed.

There I was…back to being the Lone Visitor.
